135th anniversary of the birth of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky.
With the support of cosmopolitan capital, the world today is quietly but successfully propagating a misguided attitude to the nationalist worldview as a kind of obscenity that is unacceptable in an intelligent society. The misinterpretation of nationalism is spread, unfortunately, both among the Ukrainian so-called “democratic” intelligentsia and the modern Greek Catholic Church.
Let us open the Brockhaus edition of 1897: “Jeanne d’Arc first gave a simple and clear formula of purely national patriotism: ‘to be independent of foreigners on one’s own land and to have one’s own head in the midst of oneself.’ In 1897, Brockhaus did not like nationalism: “The basis of some of the popularity that nationalism still enjoys is its mistaken mixing with patriotism.” One hundred years have passed, and what is left of “some popularity” of nationalism? Much, it turns out, remains. The current Webster’s New International Dictionary no longer hesitates to equate nationalism with patriotism: “zealous devotion to one’s own nation or its ideals, patriotism.”
Similar interpretations are found in other sources: “the doctrine of devotion to national traditions and impulses” (“Larouse”), “the desire for national progress or independence, devotion to the interests of one’s own nation” (“Random House Dictionary”) ; “Mental state, a sense of belonging to a large group with a common language, history and aspirations. It involves a sense of responsibility for the fate of the nation and a desire to help shape its future. Nationalism is the strongest political and spiritual force that guides peoples towards full national independence and better organization of their economic and cultural interests (!) “(” Encyclopaedia International “).
It’s simple. Those political forces that do not want to recognize the right of the oppressed to active, active, effective patriotism always try to separate it from nationalism, hating in the latter the ideology of struggle, active intercession for national ideals and interests. These forces are trying to instill in Ukrainians the belief in the destiny of being an eternal victim. Pharisaically invoking either religious principles or “universal humanism”, which for some reason has never returned to humanism in hundreds of years! I was unforgettable by Mr. Andriy Shkrabyuk’s speech on June 13, 2002, at a seminar organized by the magazine.
“Once I just went to our Shevchenkivsky grove [museum of wooden folk architecture] … and, looking at those wooden churches, … I saw in the beauty of this heritage of folk architecture … such an expression of Ukrainianness that does no harm, that can In addition, I saw a certain symbolism in the fragility of those churches – they are very easy to burn, because they are wooden, which is exactly the value of the national heritage, it is something very beautiful, something that does not claim to be completely taken over by me, something that exists in itself. I am obviously the son of it, and if it is threatened, I can somehow defend it in my own way. “
It has been in serious danger for a long time, Mr. Andriy, but such sons, who are afraid to throw a bloodsucker off their shoulders so that he does not hit the ground too hard when they fall, will never defend anything. You can really coexist, but have no illusions that – at least by the very fact of your existence – you are not harming anyone! Do you interfere and harm your opinion, at least because of the “German who plants potatoes in the Sich” (T. Shevchenko), because where does he plant them?
Strange gentlemen, such as Mr. Shkrabyuk, see in nationalism only that “passionate devotion to the nation, which is sometimes accompanied by xenophobia and the desire for seclusion” (from bloodsuckers, let’s add) – (“Robert”). When xenophobia is born of xenocracy, from which end should society be treated? It seems that the extremist belief that all troubles – social, economic, environmental – have, today in Ukraine, a national basis – suddenly, even for myself, received one hundred percent confirmation in the 10th year of “independence” as the Russian-speaking bourgeoisie: enough to stop, in whose hands is serious money, it is enough to open your eyes and stare at what the fat face of an exchange or bank official looks like.
Purposeful military-patriotic desecration of the last decades of formal Moscow Sovietism, which turned into vulgar demoralization (including denationalization – because there is no morality without conscious national patriotism) of the whole society for ten years of “independent” and informal Ukrainian Sovietism led to such phenomena when the criminal race of those in power cannot be recognized as citizenship.
Today, every movement for social justice, morality, legality or just human society; for the preservation of nature, even just for the preservation of the normal health of Ukrainians; protection of human life from banditry, protection of the entrepreneur from crime, support of the Ukrainian small producer – purely all problems, the unresolved solution of which now threatens the simple biological existence of the population of Ukraine – can rightly be interpreted in the national context …
Surprising, at first glance, but a natural paradox of Kravchuk’s social-democratic (united with the so-called National Democrats) Bialowieza independence: in the Ukrainian state the situation of the inevitable national liberation movement of the Ukrainian people is brewing! Even more strange, even mystical, is the reverse pattern – no matter what the thread – it will lead to a lack of decent self-government of the Ukrainian burgher and Ukrainian peasant, as the first cause of social catastrophe (because when society does not develop, but only absorbed by strangers to him parasites – then this condition can be described as a catastrophe).
When power in a society falls into the hands of people who have consciously and with the pleasure of a masochist mutilated the remnants of ethnic inspiration in their own souls, it returns to be a fatal drama for that society. Having destroyed itself morally, it will destroy the land from which it lives, and then, subject to the atavism of nomadism, in a subconscious search for lost ground, will ruin to destroy its neighbors, destroy them to finally die, having suffered the last sacrifice in itself.
What is the genesis of the Ukrainian werewolf? Experiencing constant national persecution, both in Soviet times and in the current times of criminal Ukrainian-eating capital, weaker characters can not stand and, unable to compensate for their own oppression by oppressing others, subconsciously seek a way out of the degenerate triumph of paternal faith in himself. , over the innocent echo of the mother’s song in her own sold-out soul.
And then, comforted by such a satanic victory over his own conscience, how tempting to destroy with growing zeal cold indifference, as witnesses of spiritual rebuke, like themselves, but who resisted the conversion to the devil’s faith of universal cosmopolitan nothingness.
Belief in national ideas, a duty to the phantom of the nation, has always been filled with the living nectar of nobility of those figures of culture, science and politics who remained on the principles of nationalism. Indira Gandhi wrote in the preface to her father’s book: “Just as there can be no real interdependence without independence, true internationalism can only be based on chauvinist-free nationalism” (in J. Nehru, A Look at World History “).
The lack of a sense of nationalist purpose in people is compensated by the predominance of hedonistic motives in their lives. Individuals who have irrevocably sold the sacred principle of man in their souls to the devil’s desire for international hedonism, easily reach the swampy depths of janissary, acquire the ability to water the swamp and oppress the cosmopolitan boot of the national idea. There should be nothing and the people who visit Zayd, who trample the flag of his destination.
The flag of national content is a symbol of unity and forgiveness, a symbol of heredity, which cannot be changed. On it is the blood of patriots and enemies, the righteous and the prodigal, the tears of orphans and widows, it is: the hope of eternal purpose; a brief moment of freedom. His mother wraps the baby’s heart, and you can only take them out together. This is the banner of nationalism.
It means: faith in the preservation and establishment in the sea of humanity and the native nation; belief in a special (not higher and not exclusive, but unique) specific role in the history of civilization – a role that no other nation can perform for the simple reason that other nations perform other roles; the belief that this specific historical place (however insignificant it may seem to someone else) is destined by the Creator for a given nation, and it is in this place at a particular historical moment that the spirit of the nation must be embodied in the flesh of its own statehood – before enter the kingdom of equals.
Nationalism is a blessing. This is how it looks today. And who cares how the concept of nationalism was interpreted before the First World War, I note that “a fighter in the name of the triumph of the highest ideals of true nationalism” considered Ivan Franko such luminaries of Ukrainian socio-political thought and culture as Antonovych, Lesya Ukrainka, Lysenko, Starytsky, Nechuy-Levytsky, and dozens of other high-ranking figures (see the full text of the Greeting Letter of 1898 in Prosvita No. 19 for October 1990).
That is why it was especially sad to hear on TV, sometime in June 2000, about “some narrow nationalism” (Franco with dozens of volumes of his works is narrow!) – from the mouth of a young graduate, probably from the Vatican school , on the occasion of the anniversary celebrations dedicated to 135 anniversary of the birth of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky. Yes, it is true that the Metropolitan was unconditionally “free from some narrow nationalism.” https://123helpme.me/narrative-essay-topics/ But the second truth is that when one’s worldview is as narrow as that of the current Galician “intelligentsia,” it is far from nationalism. Nationalism cannot be “narrow” but it must be selfless.
The nationalist must be very well versed in the preferences, achievements, historical ranks of other peoples and cultures in order to realize the place that is destined for him.
